The regular Entrance Pass is tied to the entry time you book. The Flexible Pass is a separate category for the chosen day, useful if your plans are hard to pin down. There is no fixed visit length, and the prices on this page are a guide, so confirm them when you book. Tickets are sold in the museum's own ticket shop and also by resellers, so compare the final price, the cancellation terms and any booking fee before you buy. For most visitors, an Entrance Pass for a set time is the sensible choice; the Flexible Pass only pays off when you cannot predict your arrival.

The museum opens from 9:00 to 21:00, with last entry at 19:30. Check the hours for your date when you book.
The late opening is the main advantage for travellers. You can spend the day on temples or a day trip and still reach the museum in the evening, since it is close to the station where most trains and buses arrive. On a hot summer day or a wet day it is an indoor option close to the hotels around Kyoto Station.
